Pre painted aluminum roofing garnering more attention

Since the year 2000, pre painted aluminum roofing garnering more attention.

Multiple steps in metal aluminum roof sheet fabrication.Residential aluminum metal sheet roofing is primarily made of steel or aluminum. A properly installed metal roof will last 40-50 years and, with certain coatings, metal roofs are brighter and stay cleaner longer.

Pre painted aluminum roofing is initially produced in giant aluminum coils in the mills. The aluminum coils are coated with a metallic coating to prevent rust at the steel plant. From there, the coils are transported to a coil coating operation. In one continuous process, the coil of metal, up to 72” wide moving up to 700 feet per minute, is unwound, cleaned on both top and bottom, chemically treated, primed, oven cured, top coated, oven cured again, rewound and prepared for shipment.

The coating aluminum coil process itself is considered the most environmentally responsible way to apply paint to steel and aluminum substrate. That’s because coil coating is a highly efficient ‘closed loop’ process. The coating curing ovens burn the harmful volatile organic compounds (VOCs) using them as fuel which saves energy and eliminates pollutants that would otherwise be released into the air.

There is a growing list of reasons for the expanding use of pre painted aluminum roofs in the residential market. Leading the list is the tremendous variety of exciting shapes and colors that today’s aluminum roofing offers. Besides the aesthetic advantages, modern metal residential roofing is easily installed and offers longevity, energy savings and durability, even under extreme weather conditions.

Pre painted aluminum roofing can be formed and prepainted to simulate traditional roofing materials, such as asphalt shingles, cedar shake, tile or even slate. Advancements in coil coating technology now make it possible for prepainted metals roofs to feature many different linear and multi-dimensional looks to complement other homes in the neighborhood.
